If you want a study/reference Bible (or a good audio-bible), #4's your winner. If you want one single heavy-hitter, go with #3 (list below.) However, if you can make the investment, get #1 for the Bible text and #2 for the beginner's notes and a formal translation to compare to. I say, readable/understandable first, then get romantic! You will find people fighting for one or the other based on their passion. Just be aware that you are always fighting a battle when choosing a translation: should it be more romantic, poetic, and accurate, OR readable and understandable. A friend asked me which specific Bibles I would recommend a seeker or new believer to buy.
